First Time Missions

I have been a Jesus follower since I was a young girl. Throughout middle school and high school, peers would go on short term mission trips to South America and Mexico; I would stay back. My Type 1 diabetes was always a wild card and it never seemed like a good idea to send me off on my own to manage my own care in a different country. As I grew into adulthood, the desire to serve God outside of my own country grew. I became a mom and instead raised little ones in my home, the world would have to wait!

When previous Kenya trips would arise, my heart would be pulled. However, I knew that my husband and I would have to go together if we went to country I deemed 'hard'. I didn't want to go without him, didn't want to see poverty and depravity without him experiencing it with me. I told God, "If you want me to go somewhere hard, you'll have to put it on Andy's heart too". Several years went by, and God never put it on Andy's heart to serve outside of our country.

When Janice asked me about serving the Millers in Poland, my immediate response was "YES!". It fit my criteria-it wasn't a placed ravaged by poverty. Little did I know, God had lined up so much more for me than my one standard. Janice told us that we'd be creating a language arts camp for the Miller children (I have a teaching degree with a language arts endorsement). She mentioned that we'd take a therapeutic approach to touch on some heart matters as well, this is incredibly important to me and I understand it's value. Finally, when she mentioned there was a baby, I asked if we'd be working with her too. She said 'yes'. In the career I've had for 14 years, I've worked with 0-3 year olds and have developed language skills in them. This is what the Lord has for me in Poland! And I am thrilled to be used by Him, with the gifts He's given me, to serve the Millers so they can serve and love the people of Poland for His glory.
