Eyes wide open

I never imagined that I would go on a mission trip. Last year when they brought up Kenya and working in a school with kids, it got my attention. I put my name down on the list to go but I was really hesitant. I had a few people trying to convince me not to go, telling me that it wasn’t safe and about the native diseases. I prayed a lot and asked God if this is something he wanted me to do.This felt like the first time I heard Him clearly speaking to me, encouraging me to go. We had a lot of meetings before the trip, every time it got closer to the date, I became more & more nervous. When the day actually came and we arrived in Kenya, all my fears were gone. The next day when we actually got to walk through Kenya, my eyes were open. I fell in love, being there with the people and the city. I never felt unsafe or disgusted, I looked around and to me it was very beautiful. My favorite part was doing VBS at the school. All the kids appreciated everything, which you don’t see often here. It shines a light on gratitude, something we all need to remind ourselves as we revel in God's grace. We are all His children and it is our duty, as Christians, to go out and not only teach but to learn as well.
